Gold man's earrings

Gold, just like silver, is chemically resistant metal of yellow color. It is highly plastic and very moldable. That makes it perfectly suitable for jewelry and, of course, for mens earrings. In jewelry, gold is usually used in alloyed form, as pure gold is very soft. Jeweller’s gold contains such metals as silver, copper, nickel and platinum. Quality of jeweller’s gold is determined  by its fineness or by its caratage. Fineness is a numeric value that determines the quantity of noble metal  in 1000 parts of the alloy. Pure gold is considered to be 24 carats (k).
By  fineness of 990 (24k), three-component alloy is denoted, which besides gold also contains small amount of silver and copper. Soft, easy scratchable alloy with beautiful yellow color, which is very close to pure gold. Alloy, designated by fineness of 750 (18k), also contains gold, silver and copper. Color may vary from yellow-greenish to red and even white. Gold of 585 fineness  (14k) is also made up of those three components. Color variety is even wider - from red and pink to yellow and white.
Below is a table, indicating relevance between those measures and pecentage of pure gold in them.
Fineness 999 990 916 875 800 750 585
Carats 24 24 22 21 19.2 18 14
Gold content in % 99.9 99.0 91.6 87.5 80.0 75.0 58.5
Jeweller’s  gold may be of different colors: red, yellow, greenish and white, of which the most common is yellow gold. White gold is often used for mens earrings with diamonds, as it harmonizes the overall look of the jawelry. Goldsmiths also often uses combination of white and red gold, to add contrast to their earrings.

Facts about gold

It would be possible to build only one third of Washington Monument, if all gold, that was mined in whole history of humanity, was used. If all of that gold was distributed evenly to everyone of the six billion of world’s population, every person would get only about twenty grams of it. Gold is chemicaliy very stable - it reacts only with some very concentrated acids -  so in ordinar circumstances it does not wear down and lose its brilliance.
Gold is very reflective, when well polished. It is the second  best material for electrical conductors that is known (silver is first).  It  is one of the best heat conductors as well. Gold, besides copper (red-orange) and germanium (grayish-blue) is one of three metals with a unique color.
Back in ancient times, gold was also used as money. Great amount of industrial, chemical equippment and manpower is required for gold extraction. Small amounts of gold are often used in electonic products, thanks to its conductivity and corrosion resistance. It is also used in space technology and satellites. Most of the high-tech products uses  gold for their sensors and contacts.
Nowadays, consuption of all produced gold is about 50% in jawelry, 40% in investments and 10% for industrial purpouses.
