Time Traveler VI necklace by 'Steampunk Junk

28 AuTime Traveler VI necklace by 'Steampunk Junk

Is it a bird? Is it a watch? No, it’s steampunk . . .
Whether you’re a frugal shopper or a fashionista, you’ve probably laid eyes upon or at least heard of it.  While the popularity of the steampunk style continues to grow, it is by no means a recent phenomenon.  A term originally coined by K. W. Jeter, author of Morlock Nights, an 80’s science fiction novel that takes place in an alternate Victorian England, ’steampunk’ began as a fictional cultural concept.

One that has since garnered a cult following.  While its hard core enthusiasts sometimes associate it with the cyber punk movement, this falls tragically short of what the true ’steampunk’ ideal was meant to represent.
But, you ask, what makes a piece of jewelry ’steampunk’?

At first glance it would seem to be a simple matter of components. Some whirring gears, a few skeleton keys, a flourish of elegant scrollwork, and voila!  A mechanical masterpiece.  However, while this may satisfy the superficial definiton of steampunk, there is far more to this intriguing trend, than meets the eye.

What lies at its heart is the Victorian sensibility.  Influenced by an honest fascination with the Renaissance, when scientific study and empirical thought overruled the baser instincts and sinister superstitions of the Medieval period, the Victorians propelled themselves full force into the Industrial Revolution.

Steam power was making it possible to travel and live in relative comfort, while mass production manufacturing was making that comfort more and more affordable.

The possiblities seemed endless.  This whirlwind of ‘modernization’ laid the foundations upon which were created such works as H.G. Wells’ Time Machine and Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.  Captain Nemo’s wondrous submarine, the Nautilus, is a prime example of ’steampunkery’.  A mechanized fantasia of unequaled technological potential created with a spartan, yet refined aesthetic.

                                                                                           'Steampunk pendants

With such pedigrees at its disposal, steampunk is certainly more than a collection of patinated copper clockwork and engraved escutcheon plates.  It is a celebration of the golden age of the thinking man.  A nod to the pioneer spirit and, yes, a touch of rebellion.

So the next time you see a piece of steampunk jewelry, be sure to ask after its maker, because the story behind the watch face may be even more captivating than its cogs!

3D Jewelry for men's by Atoms

Bits to Atoms is a range of bespoke men's jewelry produced using additive manufacturing techniques whereby each piece is laser sintered together particle by particle, layer by layer. Available in Black or Transparent Acrylic based photopolymer, each piece has a unique layered, felt-like texture from the production process. Bronze infused Stainless Steel & Alumide pieces have a tessellated slightly pitted texture. All jewelry is designed in Australia using parametric 3D modeling software then 3D printed in the Netherlands to order.

An intricate stainless steel pendant featuring a network of intricate veins that radiate from its center. The pattern was grown in our computer simulation of leaf venation and etched from a sheet of stainless steel. The necklace comes with an 18" sterling silverchain.

Reticulate, meaning net-like, describes the complex branching patterns that govern the veins in leaves of most flowering plants. Tiny tertiary veins interconnect the thick primary and secondary ones to create a redundant system for the transportation of water, sugars, and nutrients.

This necklace is available in unfinished stainless steel or stainless steel plated with black chromium (nickel-free). Please specify which finish you would like in the comment box when you order. If none is specified, you will receive a stainless steel necklace.

Men's Charging Stations and Jewelry Boxes

Men have a similar habit; they carry their most important belongings with them everywhere they go, their wallet, change, cell phone, MP3 player, watch, jewelry and other items.

These items are often lost or misplaced easily because they are tossed haphazardly onto the counter or dresser at the end of each day. There is a great way to solve this dilemma.

Men's jewelry boxes will store jewelry and watches that are not being worn daily while men's charging stations hold and organize their daily needed items. A charger is a dresser or tabletop station that has slots for coins, watches, jewelry and for cell phones and MP3 players.

These organizers are designed to hold all needed items and to provide a station from which cell phones and electronics can charge overnight.

There are several charger designs available online and in department stores one of the best designs on the market is the Amelia Charging Station.

This charger has three sections for charging electronics, a section for rings, an earring holder, and it has a travel compartment that can be removed for traveling organization purposes.

Charging stations are a great way to keep all of your necessary items in one organized area. There will be no more wild early morning searches for keys or cell phone when you utilize a charger station that holds all of these personal items. The last minute calls to work to apologize that you are running late never have to happen again.

This one station can easy hold a wallet, keys, rings, earring, watch, cell phone, MP3 player and money.

This is a great idea for teenage boys as well. Help your son train himself to put the daily essentials in one spot daily. Teenage boys especially enjoy utilizing the one area to charge each of their gadgets.

These charging stations are such great tools for organization that wives you have purchased them for their husbands and have instead found themselves purchasing one for other areas of the home so that it can hold their extra gadgets daily as well.

A charging station is a great addition to the traditional men's jewelry box that remains as a steadfast in the bedroom. Most men find that they enjoy having a charger on their desk, in their bedroom and even in the living room. A great looking charger looks good in any décor and can be placed anywhere in the home that is convenient.

Jewelry for men's

Men have been wearing jewelry at least as long as women, of course, but usually for different reasons. Whereas women’s jewelry is meant to adorn and enhance the wearer’s beauty, men’s jewelry has traditionally been worn as a status symbol, badge of rank, or even in recognition of achievement.

When it comes to men’s wedding bands, there are several options available, but few consist of the plain gold band of yesteryear.

Popular motifs include Celtic knot work patterns, Greek key designs, Arabic geometric patters and even abstract designs. Often, these can be engraved.
What is the difference between men’s diamond rings and a diamond wedding band? Not much; men’s wedding rings can fall into either category.

Generally, a diamond wedding band does not have a large gem, prominently mounted, but does have small diamonds embedded in the surface.
