Platinum is considered to be prestigious because it is
extremely rare and precious metal. Platinum is of white color and
thereby combines with diamonds very well. If its color suits you, it is
more preferable than gold or silver as it require less maintenance and
is more durable, making it ideal material for mens earrings. It is bit
heavier than other metals, but for some people it is even benefit
instead of defect. Color of platinum jewelry does not fade out over
time.
Platinum is very strong and dense material.
Platinum jewelry will last for more longer than gold and silver jewelry,
but it is much heavier than titanium jewelry. Platinum jewelry is
typically made of 95% pure platinum and other metals alloyed to improve
the luster and glitter of the final product. Platinum jewelry is
usually marked by a number between 800 and 1000. This number represents
the percentage of platinum in the metal at 800% being 80% and 1000 being
100%. Alloys with a percentage of 95 or more usually are referred as
"platinum".
It is used in jewelry in almost pure (approximetly 95%) form, unlike
silver or gold. As platinum is extremely durable and very white, it does
not need to be rhodium plated like white gold. Platinum is very heavy,
thanks to its density, so a platinum earring will feel heavier than an
18kt gold earring. Platinum is, however, very expensive. A platinum mens earrings will be approximately twice the price of an 18kt white gold
earrrings (excluding gemstone costs).
